Creamy Fizz

Reflection, three things that went well, things that did not go well, three things you would change if done again at the market day.

Three things that went well is that we sold out on all the drinks and everyone loved them, the ice cream sundaes were at a high quality and we made sure to keep swapping the ice creams into the freezers so they didn’t have melted, and we made a profit and didn’t lose any money, also our communication between the team was good and easy.

Three things that didn’t go so well was that we had to keep going back to the food room to swap the ice cream due to the ice cream melting in the sun, the topping wasn’t that easy to get due to us leaving them in the packets/bottles, we also forgot an ice cream scoop so we had to use a normal spoon.

Next time we could have also had the toppings in containers and looking more organized instead of like winging it and use a chilly bin to put the ice cream in so it won’t melt as quickly and wouldn’t have to keep swapping them and buy more drinks next time and that was a wanted thing, we also wouldn't buy as many cups and spoons.

Mount Etna

How do volcanoes form?
They are formed when magma within the earth upper mantle works its way to the surface, at the surface, it erupts to form lava and flows and ash deposits over time as the volcano continues to erupt, it will get bigger and bigger
mount etna - is the second-largest volcano in Europe, but the largest active volcano in Europe, The volcano Mount Etna sits on the east coast of the island of Sicily, Italy and is currently standing at 3,329 meters.
When did it last erupt?
Mount Etna's most severe recent eruption was on March 16, 2017, when ten people from the BBC crew were injured. A further eruption in August 2018 sent plumes of ash and lava spewing in the air but no evacuations or injuries were reported.
Damage
March 16, 2017 eruption caused 10 people injured but overall mount etna has caused a 4.3 and 4.8-magnitude earthquakes that injured 28 people and left 600 homeless, the earthquakes have caused many houses to fall down leaving people homeless.
How many times has it erupted?
Mount etna has erupted 200 times
What type of volcano is Mount Etna?
Stratovolcano
What will happen if Mount Etna Falls?
About a million people live on Etna's slopes, and millions more reside on the coastlines across the Ionian sea. If part of the volcano near the shoreline becomes unstable and falls into the water, it could create mega-tsunamis that would ruin the shores of the eastern Mediterranean

Facts

Mount Etna is so active because it is sitting on a fault, the African tectonic plate is being pushed under the Eurasian plate and Mount Etna sits on top.

Children of blood of bone

Question - Relationship between 2 or more characters.

We chose Zelie and Amari.

Question - What did it help us understand.

The friendship between Amari helps us understand Zelie because after zelie helps Amari escapes she realises Zelie has trust issues because she doesn't want to risk her family getting hurt again.

Structure of essay

-Trust issues (shes devolves trust with others)

-Forgiving (her rage towards the royals)

- Religious (she turns her back on the Gods but once she realises it was a bad idea she comes back to it.

Wind racer

Aim:
To build the fastest wind racer out of the supplied materials.

Equipment:
  • Cart (trollety)
  • String
  • A square of Cardboard
  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • 1 metre Tape
  • clamp stand

Method:
  1. Screw the pole from the clamp stand into the chassis.
  2. Tape strips of cardboard onto the base of the pole so they form the base of the sail.
  3. Cut out a large piece of paper and fold it over and around the pole to form sails.
  4. Tape it together and ensure it is stable and secure.
  5. Decorate the sails and name the vessel.
  6. Use the wind blower and measure the distance and speed it travels.

Result:
Our wind racers time was 8.93 and the distance was 11.70.

Discussion:
 V = d/t = 1.31

Conclusion - our wind racer worked well but next time we would make it more sturdy since it fell over at the end and if it stayed up it would of gone further.

Power of friendship

The incident of when Amari stealing the scroll and finding Zelie helps me understand the idea of the power of friendship, we see this because even though Amari stole it off Zelie it brought them together as friends and since they met because of this everything changed after this because they helped each other heaps, you get to see the scroll was powerful when the text says "I expect to feel some aura in the scrolls presence"

The Incident of when Amari having the scroll and finding Zelie helped me understand the important idea of friendship because even though their friendship took heaps of time to develop it was from that moment they started to spend more time together and slowly develop a friendship without even realising and from this they started to achieve their goals from the power of friendship and have such a big impact on each other throughout the book as they both help each other through tough times and help each other make big decisions.

Pyramids

Pyramids were built for religious purposesThe Egyptians were one of the first civilisations to believe in an afterlife. They believed that a second self called the ka lived within every human being, inside they pyramids they put things in for the afterlife such as mummies.

The pyramids meaning is death but also contains rebirth, the base of the pyramid stands for the body and the sides show the spiritual attempts, the point symbolise harmonise union of the human with the higher self (god)

The largest and first pyramid in Giza was built by pharaoh Khufu (around 2551 B.C.)
His pyramid today stands 455 feet high.

the Ancient Egyptians Moved Massive Pyramid Stones. The Pyramids of Giza, built between 2589 and 2504 BC. The ancient Egyptians who built the pyramids may have been able to move massive stone blocks across the desert by wetting the sand in front of a contraption built to pull the heavy objects,
It took over 100,000 people to build the pyramids & made out of over 5 million blocks of limestone.

The pyramids were built by Pharaohs Khufu (tallest), Khafre (background), and Menkaure (front).

eassy pre-planning

Today we have to pre-plan a essay as it was broken up into different parts, we has to choose a key
event and key character, as a group we chose zelie as the key character and the solstice when she gets
her magic back as the key event, we also had to say three ways the character changed after
the event and below this you get to see what we decided.

  1. What is going to be my ‘key event’

My key event is going to be the solstice when Zelie gets her magic back

Who is going to be my ‘important character’?

My important character is going to be Zelie

What are 3 ways the character changed as a result of this event?

My character changed from being hopeless to hopeful
My character changed from being angry to dissapointed

My character changed from being sad to thankful

Heres a rough photo of some of our work , it just talks about how Zelie changed after the event.

Are students addicted to their phones?

Are students addicted to their phones, if so is that a problem?

Yes because when we are addicted to something such as our phones the reward is dopamine, dopamine is a brain chemical that literally makes us happy, and we get it every time we receive something on our phones, it could be anything from a text or something we find interesting.
Students have been so addicted to their phone they are dependant of them, the reason why its bad being addicted to your phone is because people have become to dependant they have literally shut off their real life and being social just so they can always be on their phone being addicted to you phone actually causes mental health problems such as stress, anxiety, depression and loneliness but at the same time it can also exacerbate these problems, i'm not saying phones are bad because their not its just being addicted to them because being addicted to anything is bad, cellphones are a good way to connect with each other and a sense of security knowing in a case of a emergency you can call for help yet the effects of using cellphones to much can cause cancer risk, mobile phones influence our nervous system, may cause headaches, decreased attention, shortness of temper, sleep disorders and depression yet radio waves are not the only reason for such symptoms, people touch their phones 2,917 times a day and %50 of young people admitted to being addicted to their phones, cellphones aren't bad and they have their pros and cons but being addicted to your phone isn't cool.

Uses of Magnets

Building a Simple Electric Motor.

Aim: To build a simple electric motor.
Equipment: 400 mm un-insulator copper wire,1 AA battery, 2 small magnets (approx. 10mm, 5mm) - neodymium magnets work really well.

Method:
1. Bend your wire in half and lay the bend over the point in the middle of the template below.
2. Now work around each side of the wire, bending it along the line as you go.
3. Place both of the magnets on the negative terminal of you battery.
4. Place the curved sections of wire around the magnets, ensuring that they are free to rotate, Balance the pointed section on the positive terminal.
5. If you've done everything correctly, when you let the wire go it should spin vigorously.

Results. The wire didn't spin around, but the battery did get really hot.

Conclusion It didn't work but next time we will use a bigger battery and magnets.

Close viewing assessment

This is my term 2 assessment about The Power of One and below this essay is my own reflection on it.
In the film The Power of One, directed by John Avildson, from the year 1930s is a movie filled with racism, revenge, class, religions, dreams, hopes and plans. The scene when P.K and Gideon go for a run around their buildings you actually see the way the black South Africans live and it is way different to the way P.K and his nationality lives like, Advildson uses a lot of techniques but the ones that stand out the most are; camera angles, diegetic sounds and facial expressions. All these film techniques created the scene the way Advildson experienced and gave the effect to all his ideas.

In the scene when P.K and Gideon goes for their run, Advilson uses the film technique of camera angles, he used the angle of tracking as they ran you are able to see everything that is happening around them and the way the black African are living compared to the British, P.K got to see there is only one toilet per two hundred people and they all still have hope and are grateful even though they are living in poverty. With the tracking shot used you get to see the relationship between them while kids run behind them for a little bit before they get tired and give up, by using the tracking shot you get to see more into Gideon's life.

Another film aspect is used is facial expressions, as P.K and Gideon run and P.K gets to see they way he lives when he was running before he saw the line for the toilets he was happy and then he saw the Que for the toilet and it expression changed to concern as Gideon started talking about how only 2% of them get to go to school and learn just enough to become a maid or street worker, you could see on P.K face he had sympathy for them for how low their living is yet all the black south Africans always look happy because they have hope even when they are on the streets working they all sing together and get through it together and trying to make it fun, no matter if they are waiting or working or just in general they always have some sort of smile on their face because they have hope.

Lastly sound is an important film aspect used in the film, it is diegetic sound as you got to hear P.K and Gideon conversation as they go for a run around the town, the sound of distance conversations, engines of trucks and cars. You can also hear the workers singing while they work. The use of sound in this scene is to show the audience the conversation between P.K and Gideon while they are on their run so we can experience it as if we were one of the guys in the film going for a run, as Gideon talks you get to understand his perspective on life, he always sees the good even when nobody else sees it.

In conclusion, Advilson uses camera angles, sounds and facial expressions to show that there is more going on a scene that you realise, you get to see the Africans and British live very different lives, the director showed us the impact the British have on the Africans lives.

One thing I am proud of is completing it yet not to standard I wanted it to be, I think next time to improve, I could
use Grammarly and Read Write for Google to proofread my essay, I can work more on this essay at home and focus more on it in class, use more full stops and capital letters, I should also describe my examples using more details and make links to my own experience and/or the wider world. One thing I enjoyed about learning about film was understanding how the way everyone got treated whether they were treated good or bad yet you got shown it in a more modern way. One thing I found challenging about learning about film was not watching the first like hour of the movie due to not being here. One thing I learned that I will use the next time I write an essay was the golden technique. ?

Aboriginal boomerang

This activity was to learn about the aboriginals and how the boomerangs helped them and what they were used for, we had to do a slide/doc about the aboriginal people and the boomerangs before we were able to decorate our own.

This is how I decorated mine.

- At the top of the boomerang I painted a sun because the sun means giver of life and protector.
- The black tracks represents the kangaroo prints.
- The green and red line represents the rain.
- The blue waves represents the sea.

Colour meaning

Black: represents the aboriginal people in Australia
Red: represents the red earth, the red ochre used in ceremonies and aboriginal peoples' spiritual relation to the land.
Yellow: represents the sun, giver of life and protector.
Blue: represents peace and water.
Green: represents nature and renewal.

While I was painting my boomerang after I did one side I realised I didn't like
the way I did it but with the short amount of time we had
and the amount of time it takes to dry I had to keep this way and just carried on.

Children of blood and bone

Chapter 22 - Amari
I pause for a moment, aghast at the number of them filling the narrow path. Before today, I caught only glimpses of the laborers brought in to staff the palace—always pleasant, clean, groomed to Mother’s satisfaction. Like Binta, I thought they lived simple lives, safe within the palace walls. I never considered where they came from, where else they might have ended up,
“Skies…” It’s almost too hard to bear the sight. Mostly diviners, the laborers outnumber the villagers by hordes, dressed in nothing but tattered rags. Their dark skin blisters under the scorching sun, marred by the dirt and sand seemingly burned into their beings. Each is hardly more than a walking skeleton.

This could be compared to / A message I take from this scene is that you actually don't realise what is happening around you until you make you make your self aware, it relates to the world even because you might be just living your life and not caring what happens to others but when you see it for real it hits you.

Chapter 23 - Zélie
Metal gates fly open on the sides of the arena floor, and an endless flow of water rushes in. This has to be a mirage. Yet liter after liter flows in. The water covers the metal ground, crashing with the expanse of a sea.
“How is this possible?” I hiss under my breath, remembering the laborers no more than skin and bone. So many dying for water and they waste it on this?
This could be compared to / A message I take from this scene is it was so unreal the amount of water that is just wasted when their are so many people dying for water that she couldn't believe it and thought it must of been a illusion but as more water flowed through she realised it wasn't, she thought their just wasn't enough water supply yet their actually and its being wasted on something that doesn't even matter that much.

Chapter 49 – Amari
Strike, Amari.
Father’s voice rings in my head, but it’s not his strength I need.
Be brave, Amari. Binta soothes instead.
Be the Lionaire.--

A message I could take away from text is that strength can be so many different things but Amari didn't need the strength to tell her what to do from her Fathers voice ringing in her head but the strength to do what is right, she just had to be brave and do what she knew was right.

Chapter 52 – Amari
“I’ll prove myself to you, to all of you,” Inan declares. “You’re on the right side of this. My only desire is to stand there as well.”
“Good.” I lean forward to hug him, holding on to his promise.
But when his hands wrap around my back, all I can think of are how his fingers are resting just above my scars.
This could be compared to / A message I take from this scene is
Do you trust Inan? Does he deserve a second chance?
Do people in real life deserve second chances?

In this text Inan says how he is going to prove how he is doing it for the right reasons and try get forgiveness even though after all the horrible stuff he has done hopefully hes being honest and is doing this for the right reasons because Amari has mostly forgiven him but she still remember what he has done to her has he hugged her back his fingers are so close to the scars from we they fought so even if Amari forgives him you can't completely forget what he's done, I wouldn't say I trust Inan but I believe everyone deserves a second chance even after everything he's done, I also reckon if someone is actually sorry and wants forgiveness then they deserve a second chance but it won't even be the same how it could of been because even if you were influenced to do whatever you did it doesn't matter because you still did it and you can't just forget things that hurt you.

Chapter 59 – Zélie
“How will me coming back to Lagos solve any of that?” I ask. “As we speak, your father calls for my head!”
“My father’s scared.” Inan shakes his head. “He’s misguided, but his fear is justified. All the monarchy’s ever seen is the destruction maji can bring. They’ve never experienced anything like this.” He gestures to the camp, face alight with so much hope his smile practically glows in the darkness. “Zulaikha created this in one moon, and there are already more diviners in Lagos than anywhere else in Orïsha. Just imagine what we could accomplish with the resources of the monarchy behind us.”
This could be compared to / A message I take from this scene is

Inan talks about how his father is scared and misguided because all he's ever seen is destruction and never peace, Inanas father wants Zelie head because she has the magic but she only wants to bring peace from it but since Inans father doesn't have magic hes scared of Zelie, If all the diviners join into one it might clash due to all the different ideas and people but it might work but peace isn't as easy to get as it sounds, it will also take heaps of convincing for everyone to join all into one.

Chapter 66 – Inan
Father stands in his night robes, scanning a faded map. No sign of hatred. Not even a hint of disgust.
For him, carving MAGGOT into a girl’s back is just another day’s work.

In that instant it hits me: Zulaikha’s death. Zélie’s screams. They don’t mean a thing to him. Because they’re maji, they’re nothing.
This could be compared to / A message I take from this scene is
Think about how the word ‘maggot’ is used. This is a slur. Do we have these in real life?

A maggot is a soft-bodied legless larva of a fly or other insect, found in decaying matter, son calling someone a maggot is a slur saying they look like some dead looking slug.

In this text Inan father acts very emotionless and has no feelings of pity towards Zulaikha or Zelie because they aren't him because he is a self centred person and only cares about himself and maybe some of his people but only so he can have this kingdom so he can stay being king.
This can relate to today with people using slurs, it's just become normal which it shouldn't of have.

Chapter 74 – Inan
Note: This time you have not been provided a quote from the story. This is an explanation.
King Saran firmly believes in duty over self. Peace between maji and kosidán failed in the past, so he does not want to try again.
Inan believes he must make a similar choice between his country and his heart. He makes the same choice as his father, even though the majacite sword blisters his own skin (this is symbolism). Inan gives up everything to be everything his Father wants.
This could be compared to / A message I take from this scene is

Inan chooses to be like his father and look after his kingdom than choosing his heart which isn't a easy thing to do but if you really know whats right and you think with not just you heart but mind as well it will be the right choice for you and just because it's your family doesn't mean its the right choice but it really depends on what sort of situation it is.

Chapter 79 – Zélie
Inan’s amber eyes trap me in the truth of his betrayal, but it isn’t the gaze I know. He’s a stranger. A soldier. The shell of the little prince.
Note: It is interesting to think about how Zélie became an empty “shell” after Saran tortured her. After talking with Saran, Inan became a shell, also.
Think back to when Inan said they had no choice but to kill the maji.
Zélie said “There’s always a choice.”
This could be compared to / A message I take from this scene is
Theres a connection with whoever Saran talks to he just sucks the life out of them like when he tortured Zelie and then spoke to Inan, the both changed but Inan was trying to live upto Saran standards and he was trying to act like he had no choice but do it but like Zelie said "there's always a choice" you always have a choice, even if you have to go fight some war or even go do something simple you still have a choice sometimes it will be a good choice or bad but it's upto you what you choose, Zelie also put her trust into inan and he betrayed her just so he can gain his fathers approval but it's not like his father is a good man all he want his power and not in a very good way, he tries to do it with making everyone scared of him.
