Questions to answer when viewing/reading texts:
- How does viewing this text through a child’s perspective change the way we experience it? Explain using an example from the text.
- We get to see the way they see it, the different emotions they feel and, the way they react - it makes us feel more sympathy as it’s also just a child. The world looks much bigger and scary for a child - they don’t know how to deal with things as well as adults can which can make them confused and scared.
- How would this text be different if it were told from the perspective of an adult? How would the audience’s experience be different?
- The perspective could be completely different as they would be older and more mature, knowing how to deal with it more and understand, it could also be such a different experience for them compared to a child.
- Why did the filmmaker or author decide to tell this story from a child’s perspective?
- We get to see there true emotions and the way they see it, making it more understanding of our age group.
- How are children represented in the text? How are adults represented in the text?
- Children don’t expect everything that happens, they aren’t treated the same way as adults - they are used as a way to show that all ages have to go through war and terror.
It makes the world look like a much bigger and scarier place when it’s through a child’s eyes as they are much smaller and not as educated on what’s happening.
- Does imagination help the young hero to cope? How so? Provide an example.
- Imagination helps everyone to cope, even though its a false reality it gives them a sense of hope that life can be what they want it to, it helps them detach themselves for reality and explore whatever they want to, whatever makes them feel most at ease.
- Does this text connect in any other way to the other texts you have read/viewed? How so? Provide evidence and explain.
- Most movies/books are similar when it comes to the stereotype as gender, race, and age - most of the time that is the main problem of the show.
